Emergency Management Bachelor’s Degree Programs

Emergency management includes the study of assessment and mitigation of natural and human-assisted disasters — large-scale catastrophic events. In many scenarios, it also includes the pre-analysis of handling potential adverse situations or dangerous hazards before such events actually arise. A typical program of study in Emergency Management is aimed — as one program catalog explains it – from the smallest incident to the largest catastrophe, our emergency and management stresses the fact that all disasters are local.

The common Emergency Management bachelor’s program leads students to a Bachelor of Arts degree, providing candidates an introduction in to all phases of assessment of a litany of hazardous situations, placing an emphasis risk assessment and prevention through consequence management, mitigation, and recovery. Expected coursework includes the study of chemistry of hazardous materials, hazard mitigation and preparedness, risk communications, emergency response to terrorism, chemical biological and radiological hazards – including the chemistry of explosives, and board, coastal and port security. Most recently, coursework in the study of social media application to emergency and disaster management has been added to some degree programs, teaching students useful public notice and alert strategies in a digital world.
